Maternity care that supports your birth plan

As advocates for your health, we’re here to support you throughout labor and delivery, and that means adhering to your preferences whenever possible. Some of the ways we support your choices for giving birth include offering you:

More birth options. Whether you’re planning an intervention-free birth, a scheduled C-section or something in between, we’re here to keep you and your baby happy and healthy.

Pain control your way. Many options for managing labor pain are available to you, including epidurals and natural methods, like birthing balls and aromatherapy. Please talk with your provider ahead of time about your wishes.

State-of-the-art birthing suites

Our updated and private birthing suites feature expanded safety measures and many comforts, including Jacuzzi tubs, rainfall showers, room for your family, a nursery, music and Wi-Fi.

We recommend that all expectant parents take a free guided tour of our labor and delivery department, including our birthing suites, so they have an idea of what to expect on the day their little one arrives.

Maternity and childbirth classes

At Prosser Memorial Hospital, we believe in empowering parents through hands-on education. That’s why we offer childbirth classes in both English and Spanish. The classes provide important information on topics such as prenatal care, CPR and packing for labor.

Support for new parents and newborns

We offer a variety of resources and support services, including:

Lactation specialist. If you choose to breastfeed your baby, our lactation consultants can help you start your breastfeeding journey off on the right foot. Lactation support is incorporated into our prenatal classes and is available during your hospital stay or, by appointment, after you leave the hospital.

Community outreach nurse. Our community outreach nurse accompanies our community paramedics on their visits to moms with special needs resulting from OB-GYN surgeries or C-sections. This service may also extend to higher-risk deliveries or babies needing a little extra care and support.

Newborn hearing screening program. Hearing loss affects about 4 to 6 out of every 1,000 newborn babies, making it a common birth defect. Children learn to speak by hearing. That’s why we screen babies to detect hearing loss as early as possible.

Little Wings and the House of Crosses

The Little Wings program offers grief support for those who have lost a baby during any stage of pregnancy. Our bereavement team consists of nurses, obstetrics technicians, support staff, chaplains, social workers and community support staff.

We also offer burial of babies under 20 weeks gestation at no cost to families in the Little Wings Vault at the House of Crosses, located in the Prosser Cemetery at 1601 Paterson Ave., Prosser, WA 99350.

A service of remembrance and communal burial is held biannually to remember the unborn and is open to anyone who would like to attend. We send invitations to families who have experienced a loss and wish to be included in the services. For more information, please contact the cemetery office at 509.786.2797 or Prosser Memorial Health Family Birthplace at 509.786.6677.
